" And this, too, shall pass away." How much it expresses! How chastening in the hour of pride! How consoling in the depths of affliction! " And this, too, shall pass away." Sometimes, when we're in a dark hour, we may believe time has suddenly stopped. Forever after, we shall always have this pain or sadness or despair. From here on, we think, this is how it's going to be- minute after minute of pain. But we need to remember time passes quickly when we're enjoying ourselves. When we're in the midst of a negative feeling, every hour seems like two. But this present hour will not endure. Nor the next. Sorrows pass, just as happiness does. Pain passes, just as pleasure does. Nothing really stays the same, nothing ever stands still. All we need to do, right now, is endure this moment. It, too, shall pass. We need to have strength, patience, faith, and a strong belief that this moment- and the feelings in this moment- will not endure. Time passes, and so will the pain. I may need help remembering that this, too, shall pass. How can I let my God help me? Bruce D. |
