Abraham Lincoln once said;..... Rule 62

Rule 62 Abraham Lincoln once said; “ With the fearful strain that is on me night and day, if I did not laugh I should die.” Rule 62 in AA states; “ Don’t take yourself so serious!” Sometimes the simplest matters in life are the most serious. Laughter is exactly that- a very serious matter. Laughter is an essential part of life. You already know that it is fun to laugh. You enjoy it; it is pleasurable; it puts a grin on your face and encourages your spirit. But forget about yourself for a second. ( Everything isn’t always about you.) Think about how important laughter can be to someone else. Most people could use a little cheering up. They could use a little laughter to brighten their otherwise dreary day. You might be the best person- perhaps the only person- who can bring a little laughter into someone else’s life. Don’t miss that opportunity. Because laughter is such an effective means of improving your life as well as that of those around you, you should work diligently to hone your sense of humor. A sense of humor gets rusty unless it is used, so don’t keep yours buried beneath a bunch of neurotic personality traits. Let your sense of humor shine through. But you must learn to use it wisely. Used properly, a good sense of humor and the laughter it brings can work to your benefit. It will: a) make your own life much more enjoyable, b) make your family and friends enjoy your company more ( because you’ll be fun to be with); and c) disarm people who are angry with you ( because every- body likes a person with a good sense of humor.) A sense of humor can be destructive, however, if not used properly. So you need to be careful how you use it. Here are three simple rules for laughter and humor; 1) Laugh at yourself- You will always be your greatest source of humor. Don’t ever take yourself so seriously that you can’t find humor in the things you say and do. Of course it’s easy to laugh at yourself when you do something embarrassing. For men, this usually entails walking around with your zipper down. For women, it may happen when you unknowingly tuck your skirt into your pantyhose before you exit from the restroom. Ha,Ha 2) Laugh with others- Some people can’t ( or won’t) see the humor in their situations. Other people may not be as comfortable with their goof-ups as you are with yours. Make sure they are laughing before you get started. If they start, then join in; if they don’t, then suppress your laughter ( but be careful not to blow out your eardrums or bite your lip). 3) Laugh often- Laughter is good for your health. It releases tension and stress. It has physical and mental benefits. How do you think I got to be so old?? Ha,ha   You will find that laughter removes all barriers. When people are laughing together, there are no age differences, no racial barriers, and no economic distinctions. Kind of sounds like an AA or CR meeting? It is just people enjoying their existence. A sense of humor is a valuable asset. Appreciate it in yourself and in others. We’re serious about this. It’s no laughing matter.
