Good evening friends. in the 12 and 12 step six speaks of
being the step that separates the men from the boys. being a sufferer of a
disease of perception and spiritual sickness, I had to open my eyes to a few
things once i sobered up from boozin' and usin'. one of those things is coming to
the realization that i have MANY defects of character. some are huge and easy
to spot, such as anger, being a criminal, womanizer, etc. others are harder to
spot like my lack of compassion towards certain people, how I'm quick to judge,
or how I'm just an asshole all the way around. fortunate for me, my sponsor
likes to say -there is no rest for the willing- and I've been graced with a
willingness to spot, look at, and correct these behaviors, along with taking
positive criticism. the reason step 6 separates the men from the boys is that
it simply defines the 2 main types of recovered folks in the fellowship. those
who came to simply quit drinking/using, and those who came to become the people
their higher power intended them to be. it takes a strong passionate willing
person to actually look at their character (if they even have character-which i
didn't) find the defects, then change them. it's as simple as not reacting to
things at first. spotting the defect, changing what you can, letting God do the
rest. we can't help our first thought. we can help how we react to that
thought. once these behaviors stop, we have become entirely ready to have our
higher power remove these defects ON IT'S TIME. NOT OURS. until then, we keep
trudging forward. don't stop, don't look back. the name of the game is change.
and change for the better. are you practicing this in all ur affairs?! if not, "open ur eyes."
great week folks. -I'm out.
